Each cohort will complete a professional development program emphasizing the leadership skills necessary to implement renewal and retention changes in South Center school districts. Each of the mentors will have three major responsibilities: personal professional development, mentoring one or two novice teachers per year, and documenting and presenting the mentoring process.

The professional development training will emphasize the following:

  • systemic change and retention

  • mentoring of induction teachers

  • facilitator training for state and national SMT programs

  • program documentation and evaluation
