Elementary FISD Teacher of the Year

Beverli Helmke
"Upon entering my classroom, students experience a warm, friendly, safe place with much love and caring for all to learn and grow.
I feel that ALL children are worthy of receiving the best education possible.
I am never willing to "give up" on a child! I can usually reach students through a good sense of humor, enthusiasm, compassion, firmness, fairness, a willing ness to sit down with the child to talk, and especially, to listen to the child.
The most important traits a teacher should cultivate in ALL students are enthusiasm, an eagerness to learn, and a desire to do their best.
Students will be able to develop confidence and the positive attitude they need to succeed, develop self-awareness, self-value, and self -esteem.  They will develop an eagerness to learn and a desire to strive to do their very best."

Secondary FISD Teacher of the Year

Connie Turner
"We believe in ourselves, our careers, and our abilities to make a difference.  Teachers are the soul of the nation and every community.  We help our children to discover themselves and their abilities.  We encourage, instruct and reinforce academic knowledge.  We teach life-long and marketable skills.  We build young adults.  We help kids to help themselves.
The common goal of educators is to have all students be winners.  Teachers work diligently so that every learner can excel in the classroom, and not only stay afloat, but learn to swim on their own.
We must continue to believe that we are in this career of education for the appropriate reasons.  A positive attitude is contagious. Keep smiling!"

"One of the most important traits a teacher should cultivate is a real joy and excitement for learning.  When The students realize that all the skills that they have learned can now be applied and they now have the power to read and write all on their own."

"As a teacher, I believe in teaching the student to keep trying and not give up until he "gets it".
Learning to be patient and persistent is one of life's important lessons."

"The look on a child's face when he or she grasps a new concept is priceless.  You can see "the light bulb go on." That look makes education and all the time and effort I put into it worthwhile."

"Teaching is an art not an act.  Teaching becomes art when the knowledge is shared with the students.
Teachers cannot choose who they teach.  A teacher must look at each student individually and never give up on them."
