Directions:  Follow the link below and on your own paper answer the following questions. The answer to your question is "only if you ask". Ok, the question was, "Do we gotta write the questions?"

http://www.scifiscripts.com/scripts/TheDayTheEarthStoodSTill.html

1. What do the abbreviations INT and EXT mean?
2. According to the script, who is the first person we should actually hear speaking?
3. Find the section that begins with EXT. SUBURBAN GAS STATION. If you were in the audience when you saw this scene, do you think they would laugh?
4. Find the section labeled MONTAGE just after the ship lands. In a complete sentence, explain what you think a MONTAGE is used for.
5. What time does the character Drew Pearson say the space ship lands in Washington DC?

When you are finished, please turn in your work. You are to work by yourself and please do not share your answers. This is something that you CAN do by yourself. Make sure you have your heading on your paper.

The Day the Earth Stood Still Questions

1. INT = interior ... EXT=exterior
2. In split screen we should see 2 men. A BRITISH ANNOUNCER and an AMERICAN ANNOUNCER. According to the script, we should hear the BRITISH ANNOUNCER first
3. Answers will vary - this is your opinion. Give credit for any answer as long as it is something that is either a YES answer or a NO answer.
4. Answers will vary - In this instance, the montage is used to show what is happening at different locations at the same time give credit for anything that sounds reasonable.
5. This happens after the scene at the baseball stadium and after the general says to "get me the chief of staff." Drew Pearson reports that the space ship landed in Washington at 3:47 p.m., Eastern standard time.

Each question is worth 15 points. Having a correct heading on the paper is worth 25 points. If there is not a complete heading, there is no partial credit - all or nothing.

3.  Prepare students for careers in broadcasting by introducing them to a variety of responsibilities like audio, lighting, camera work, on-screen talent, writing, and editing.
