RISE READING NEWS - 5TH GRADE

What is RISE?
RISE stands for
Reading Increases Student Excellence.
This forty-minute class provides additional assistance in reading.
It is very important to practice reading at home for
fluency. A great way to do this is to listen to your child read from an
Accelerated Reader Library book. Listen to your child read aloud and
help as necessary just as a coach would coach a player. It is an important
step towards independent reading plus a great opportunity for you to "share read"
with
your child. "Share reading" is simply sharing the reading - you read a
page and then your child reads a page.
"Share reading" gives students the opportunity to learn pace, voice inflection,
and vocabulary pronunciations and meanings. For optimum results,
start the school year by having your child read 15 pages a night and then
increase it by 5 pages every 3 weeks. That builds stamina which is
needed when the TAKS tests in Reading, Math, and Science are taken.
