Ms. Work
Hi! My name is Karen Work, and I have been working as a teacher in Floresville for 28 years! Wow!!! How time flies!!! I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. My parents and teachers were very influential in my decision to become an educator. I attended Concordia College in Austin and received my Associates Degree there. Then, I went to San Marcos and attended Southwest TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY and received my Bachelor's Degree.
During my years in Floresville, I have taught third grade all subjects and have had the opportunity to work with students through special programs. These special programs include Title I Reading and Math, grades 2 - 5, Content Mastery Center, grades 2-3, RISE (Reading Increases Student Excellence) for grades 3, 5, and 6, as well as the Dyslexia Program called the CEI Lab for grades 3 through 6. Additionally, I administer tests to students for qualification into Dyslexia Program Services.
My children, Ashley, Karissa, and Tyler, all attended Floresville schools and have graduated from FHS. Ashley is now graduating from Clemson University with a Masters Degree in Architecture. Karissa is planning to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing in May of 2009. Tyler is at Blinn College and is studying Fire Science and plans to become a firefighter. Yes, I am very blessed and proud of my children.

Likewise, I am proud of my students! I have taught students who have gone on to great things such as engineers at NASA and Miss Texas USA. I also have been fortunate to teach some of my students children. Plus I had the opportunity to teach some adults how to read during my time here at FISD! What a rewarding job!!!
My philosophy is that all students can learn. It helps when the entire family is able to participate in that learning; however, it is not always possible. As a single mom, I know that. But I also know that attitude is as important for success as is the ability to learn. If you strive to achieve success, it will happen!
