______________________

Hello. My name is Mrs. Johns and I am the music teacher at Floresville Elementary School. I have been teaching here in Floresville for 10 years. I received my Bachelors in All-Level Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. I completed my Master in Music Education with an emphasis on the music teaching philosophy of a Hungarian Music Teacher/Composer, Zoltán Kodály. I am vice president and webspinner of the state organization, Kodály Educators of Texas http://www.oake.org/ket/index.htm

In music class, I teach students to sing authentic American folk songs, read and write music, play musical instruments, folk dance, and music listening. Fourth and Fifth graders will be taught to play a wind blown instrument, the recorder. They have an opportunity to purchase their own recorder or they may use one of the school recorders. Please see the recorder letter attached.  All students come to music class once every 8 days for 45 minutes.

I also direct an after school fifth grade choir on Mondays from 2:30-4:00. Since the choir is after school, a permission slip is necessary to participate. See the attached letter for more information.

If you have any questions regarding music class or choir, please email me at kjohns@fisd.us
