Charlie's Myth Busting Website

My myth I will try to bust is to find out which one Tide or Oxe-Clean can take away the stain the most.

I will buy my cleaners at Wal-Mart.  I will by my carpet samples at Home Depot, and I have the rest of the supplies at my house

I will start my project on January 20th.

Step:1

 Write hypothesis

My hypothesis will be to see if oxe-clean gets stains out better than tide.

Step:2

gather necessary supplies

Get a tub of oxi -clean, a tub of tide, some carpet samples and wine and fruit punch.

Step:3

Perform experiment

Set the carpet sample on the ground and pour the wine on the sample. Test the experiment with both cleaners .  Record data.

Step:4

Chart the data in a bar graph and check results.

Procedure:

Oxi-Clean vs. Tide:

Which One Can Get the Stains Out?

By: Charlie Albert

Mr. John’s Science Class – GT Project

Materials Needed:

2 Samples of Light Colored Carpet

Red Wine

Fruit Punch

Oxi-Clean Detergent

Tide Detergent

Water

4 Small Measuring Cups

2 Large Measuring Cups

Syringe

Camera

Procedure:

  1. Measure approximately 2 ˝ teaspoons of red wine into two small measuring cups.

  1. Measure approximately 2 ˝ teaspoons of fruit punch into two small measuring cups.

  1. Take photo of clean carpet samples and measuring cups.

  1. Pour wine onto each carpet sample.  Use finger to rub wine into the carpet.

  1. Pour fruit punch onto each carpet sample.  Use finger to rub punch into the carpet.

  1. Take photo of carpet samples with stains.

  1. Allow stains to sit for one hour.

  1. Mix in a measuring cup one scoop of Oxi-Clean with 16 oz. of water.  In another measuring cup mix one scoop of Tide with 16 oz. of water.

  1. Use syringe to spray carpet stains with Oxi-Clean.  Use just enough Oxi-Clean to cover the stain.  Allow this to set for 5 minutes.  Take a photo of the carpet stains.  After the 5 minutes, blot the stains with a white towel.  Then use the syringe with just enough water to cover the stain.  Begin blotting with white towel.   When fairly dry, take another photo of the carpet stains and one of the towel used to blot the stains.  Record the results.

  1. Repeat step 9 for the Tide solution.  Take photos and record results.

  1. Allow both samples to set for one hour.  Take photos of the results.

Measuring Results by visually inspecting both samples of carpet and photographing them to share the results with my class.

Results:

After completing the experiment, and visually inspecting both samples of carpet, the Oxi-Clean sample was the winner.  The Tide sample still showed some of the red wine stain.  Both Oxi-Clean and Tide were able to get the Fruit Punch stains out.
