Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, Famous Astronomer

"One Winter my mother was pushing me in my stroller when we saw a meteorite in the sky. She taught me the right name for it by making a little rhyme:

As we were walking home that night,
We saw a shining meteorite.

That was my first time I saw anything about science."-- C P-G

Cecilia was born in England in 1900. She would be 106 years old if she is still alive! She is a 20th century astronomer. She is best remembered for telling hot stars from cold stars.

Cecilia was the first person to get a PhD from the Harvard College Observatory and was the first woman to lead the university's astronomy department.

Cecilia won a prize called the Henry Norris Russell Prize from the American Astronomical Society.
