From his biography: Victor M. Morales was born in Racine, Wisconsin and raised near San Antonio in a small town called Pleasanton. He had to grow up quick, as his father left the family early and he had to help his mother with his three younger siblings. In his public school experience he held the mile record, was the first chair sax in the band, class president one year, named best dancer and managed to finish in the top ten percent of his class. In Junior College, he walked on the track team and achieved a track scholarship. Because of financial hardship, he had to leave and join the U.S. Navy. He received a Vietnam Service Medal during his two years of active duty. Upon returning to Texas he played in a band while working on his degree. He received his Teaching certification from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. Since that time, he has taught 18 years in Elementary, Jr. High, High School and a short time in college. He is married and has three children. In 1996, Victor Morales shocked the political world by defeating three seasoned politicians with no staff whatsoever and only $15,000 dollars compared to their approximately half million dollars each. He thus became the first minority in Texas history to become a U.S. Senate nominee from either party. For years, Victor M. Morales has taught his students the power of education, to believe in yourself and the necessity to contribute to others in the community. For him, the question was never why would a teacher leave his job and travel 80,000 miles across the second largest state in pursuit of one of the most powerful positions in our nation, but Y POR QUEŽ NO? |
