G/T Start Up Activities:
In
your notebook, complete the assignments from the 4 subject
areas: Language
Arts: Go
to Word of the Day Archives
on Miriam Webster and learn a new word.
Write the word and its definition in your notebook.
Use it in a sentence of YOUR OWN, showing that you understand
what it means. Try to pick "Million Dollar Words"
(really impressive, high-vocabulary words) but words you would be able
to use in daily conversation, not really obscure, technical or obsolete
words. Science: Go to NASA’S Astronomy Photo of the Day. Read the information about the photo. In your notebook, write at short summary in your own words of the information given. Make sure I believe you understood what you wrote. Spell and punctuate correctly. Write neatly. You may choose any photo of the day from the archives, or do today's photo of the day. Make a PPT slide with the photo, the name of the picture and your summary. Math: Go to Brain Teasers. Choose This Week's Question for 5th and 6th grade. Copy it in your notebook. Work until you get an answer. Write down your answer. Put the question and your answer into a PPT slide. Next week, check to see if you got the correct answer. Get a check mark from me if you did. If your answer was wrong, change it in the slide, not in your notebook. Social
Studies: Go
to the CIA
World Factbook. Pick a
country you never even HEARD of (or one you don’t know anything at all
about).
If you are currently studying one of the countries listed, please read
about that country. In
your notebook, write three sentences recording 3 interesting, surprising
things you learned about that country.
I’d better believe you were interested and excited, and that
you didn’t just copy it straight from the page! How many T.V.s
per person does that country have, compared to the U.S.? Put the name of your country, your 3 facts, and a photo as illustration in a PPT slide. If you finish your notebook assignments and I o.k. them, you may work on your independent web page project. |
