Mr. Ximenez's Statues
by Sarah N.

Mr. Pedro Ximenez grew up in Floresville and raised a son, Arturo Ximenez.  When Arturo was 5 years old his father taught him how to make interesting things out of cement.  Among the things (which today stand in the front yard of his house and the original family house) are wishing wells, baskets, religious statues, furniture, and unusual creatures.  Some date back to 1925 and some of them have traveled to various South Texas cities and as far as California.

If you ever come to Floresville and want to see the statues, you can drive down Standish Street, the street which connects Highway 181 and the Business Loop 181.  They are displayed on both sides of this short stretch of the road.
