Father Peter Zarb's Garden |
Father Zarb's Garden If you visited Floresville in 1916, Father Zarb's garden was something that you had to go by. In 1916, history refers to it as "a new Eden." Right behind the rectory you would have found a large fruit garden with every kind of fruit tree. You would also find an arbor that was 124 feet long. Father Zarb supplied his friends and family with berries and fruits.
Father Zarb's Park was over two acres and had hundreds of evergreen trees, shrubs and palms imported from different places in the world. He also had a camphor tree of China, a pine of British India, and a cedar of the Himalayan mountains. In the center of the park you could see a large round fish pond containing eight kinds of gold fish, some rare and some very odd. The funny thing is that when the gold fish heard their master's voice, they swam to the surface of the water and stayed in front of him. After that you could see an artificial lake that was concrete and was 120x300 feet long. In the center of the river there is an island called Gem Island. Stadler, Louise. Wilson County History.
