Polley Mansion |
| In the early year of 1846, a man named J. H. Polley and his family moved from the Brazos River to the Cibolo River which is located in present-day Wilson County. J. H. Polley was one of the first of twenty-two immigrants to settle in this colony. In 1823 J. H. Polley married a woman by the name of Mary Bailey and the wedding ceremony was performed three times. The first ceremony was performed by the local alcalde, the second time by a Catholic priest, and the third by a Protestant minister. The one that made him a legal land owner was the second. J. H. Polley was also the first sheriff in Texas. I found most of my information from The Wilson County Centennial 1860-1960 Official Centennial Program and History of Wilson County; A Souvenir, (a phamplet). |
