TEXAS RANGERS CREED
"No man in the wrong can stand against a
man in the right; who keeps a comin' and that's how it should read."
In May of 1823, Stephen F. Austin set up a colony near the Brazos and
Colorado River. Ten men led by Lieutenant Moses Morrison were assigned to protect
the colony from Indians. These men traveled wherever they thought Indians
would be and Stephen Austin started calling them "Rangers". These
Texas Rangers became the first law enforcement group with state-wide jurisdiction in the
country.
The modern day Texas Rangers are still one of the most respected law
enforcement agencies in the country. There are five divisions in the state with
about twenty Rangers in each division.
