The Butter Mold
“Momma, are we going to make some butter with that bread?” asked Katie. “Sure,” agreed Katie’s mother. “Let’s go and get started on it now!” suggested Katie’s mother. “Okay, I’ve already churned the butter,” exclaimed Katie’s mother. “Go get the butter mold from the cabinet.” “What is a butter mold?” asked Katie. “Well, a butter mold is used to harden the butter after it has been churned,” explained Katie’s mother. “I think we have to go to town to buy one first,” said Katie. “I found one!” said Mom. “Let’s get started on that butter. First, I’ll help you pour the butter into the butter mold. Then we will wait for it to harden,” exclaimed Katie’s mother. Katie and her mother slowly lifted the butter churn and poured the butter into the butter mold. Years later, when Katie was cooking with her daughter Mary, she found the butter mold that she had used so long ago. She passed it down to her daughter, who loved her so. As Mary got older she met a boy named William Leonhardt, who she married. She loved him so much. Their first and only child was named Kenneth Charles Leonhardt. Kenneth was a very bright child. He decided that he wanted to have a son when he grew up. He wanted to name his son Kenneth, just like him. Sure enough, when he was 20, he married a beautiful girl that meant the world to him. His first child was named Kenneth. Then, about two years later, they had a child who they named Jason. About four years later, Randy and Robin were born. All the children loved each other, their grandparents, and their parents very much. When Kenneth grew up he married and had two girls: my little sister and me. My grandmother and great-grandmother are still alive to this day. I tell you, we still have that butter mold. |
