Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote lots of books about her own lifetime.  Her first book that she wrote was Little House in the Big Woods.  This book was a very big success, so she decided to write the sequel, Little House on the Prairie.  Next, Laura decided to write about her husband, Almanzo's, childhood in Malone, New York.  She decided to call this next book, Farmer Boy.  When Laura was seventy, she finished writing her fourth book, On the Banks of Plum Creek.  On her fifth book she toiled for months before deciding to take a trip.  When she came back, Laura finally finished her fifth book, By the Shores of Silver Lake

In 1940, the sixth book was published.   This book was called The Long Winter, but Laura wanted to call it The Hard Winter because the editors thought it sounded too grim a title for children.  Laura agreed readily.  Her next book, her seventh book, became a Newberry Honor, in which a friend exclaimed, "Every single bit of the book is perfect!".  This one was called Little Town on the Prairie.  Everybody who had read this book, was anticipating the arrival of the next book.  She finally finished These Happy Golden Years and people read this with anticipation and pleasure.  She thought that These Happy Golden Years would be her last book in the series.  But 10 years later, Laura decided to write her very last book, The First Four Years.
