History of Basketball

Basketball is a fast-paced game that many people all around the world like playing and enjoy watching the game be played.  This very famous sport was invented during the winter of 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts by a James Naismith.  Naismith was a instructor at a YMCA training school in Springfield.  He made up this exciting indoor game to stretch the abilities of his students, since it was so cold, they were not able to play an outdoor sport like they wanted to.  Naismith saw how unhappy his students were about not being able to play outside, so he hung a peach basket at both ends of the gymnasium.  Then he told his students to split up into two teams and get a soccer ball and try to throw it in the team's specific basket.  If they made it, the team got a point.   By the 1920s, a set of rules was written, and was similar to Naismith's rules.
