Wildlife

There are many different types of wildlife in Alaska. There were a couple of types of wildlife that I was particularly interested in. These types of wildlife are salmon, seals, and bald eagles.

There are many kinds of salmon in Alaska, but I think the Coho salmon, also known as the silver salmon, is the most interesting. They are the second largest of the many species of salmon in Alaska. The average life span is three to four years and, the average weight is twenty pounds. They are orange-red in color.

I am also interested in harbor seals. Harbor seals can often be found swimming along the banks of rivers or other bodies of water. Harbor seals' fur is often blonde with black spots or black with blonde spots. The average height for harbor seals is six feet, and the average weight is one hundred twenty pounds.

Although I am very interested in these kinds of animals, I am most interested in the bald eagle. There are about fifteen thousand in Southeast Alaska. These eagles can have three to four nests which can be up to six feet across. Also, they come back to the same nests every year. They lay an average of one to three eggs per year, but usually only one of the eggs hatches. Many people recognize the bald eagle as a dark colored bird with a white head. However this is not always the appearance of a bald eagle. Bald eagles are brown and white until they are about four or five years old.

I have given you some facts on these animals. Now you might know why I think these animals are interesting.
