Officers
I am very happy to be the president of the Floresville Elementary PTA for the first full school year of its existence. Remember, this is a brand new PTA -- the last one, which ended about six years ago, was for the entire school district. So we have a clean slate, a brand new nonprofit organization, and can do whatever our members would like! This is a member- and volunteer-driven organization, and your ideas are very important. Please share them with a board member. You can join the PTA at any time during the school year. Don't be afraid to join if you have no time right now to volunteer. Just by joining the PTA, you send a strong message of support for this organization that brings parents, teachers, and administrators together to improve the quality of education for our children. I urge you to make the commitment and join your PTA this year! If you join PTA and list an e-mail address, you will be included in periodic e-mails informing you of what the PTA is doing. We have a lot of exciting plans for this school year, including a number of free educational programs, opportunities for parental involvement at school, teacher appreciation breakfasts/gifts, and fundraisers. My number one goal for this school year is to increase the level of parental and family involvement at Floresville Elementary School, and this is already happening with a turnout of about 20 total parent and community volunteers helping at book fair this year, and the opportunity to volunteer with Reading Roundup in the mornings. The school will be involving PTA in future activities and events where parent and community volunteers would be helpful. The president attends all meetings of the association, appoints leaders of special committees, represents the Local PTA as a delegate to Council PTA and generally ensures the PTA is organized and run according to state law.
I have three children in the Floresville schools, one in middle school and two in the elementary school. I am very excited about the new PTA at the elementary school and would like to be involved as an officer. I helped to draft the bylaws for the new PTA earlier this spring as a member of the bylaws committee. I work part-time as an attorney, specializing in real estate. The first vice-president acts as aide-to-the-president and presides over the meetings in the absence of the president.
I am the mother of two girls, Payton, who is in the fourth grade, and Macy, who is in the first grade. We are very active in the community. I belong to and have held offices in several service organizations. I am a Friend of the Wilson County Public Library and help with their fundraisers. I am also a member of the Floresville Peanut Festival Association. I very much try to put kids first which is why our weekly activities keep us busy. I am very much a people person and thoroughly enjoy being around people in general. I am a graduate of Floresville High School and also have a Bachelor’s degree. I worked at USAA for six years until my first child, Payton turned one. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to work locally amongst our several businesses. I was the owner of a retail shop for several years, and also developed a village of retail spaces called “Bleu Casa Village” here in Floresville. I currently maintain the bookkeeping/secretarial/administrative assistant/co-owner duties of three businesses.
I am here to satisfy my duties as Corresponding Secretary as well as
promote and expand the membership of this great association. The PTA is a
great cheerleading squad of promoting the good in our schools and there is
a lot of good! Please feel free to contact me to join your Floresville
Elementary PTA at any time. The corresponding secretary is responsible for correspondence, maintains a list of the names of local officers who have completed the Texas PTA Leader Orientation, and maintains a membership list.
My name is Jennifer Rivas. I was born here in
Floresville and attended my elementary, middle, and high school years at
FISD. Floresville has been my family’s home for generations, and I have
come to appreciate the small town values. For this reason, I think that a
PTA is very important to help our school system flourish. Communication
between parents and teachers will only help benefit our children. The second vice-president is in charge of ways and means (fundraising) and will preside in the absence of the president (in their designated order).
I am the mother of two sons - Corey, 9, and Tyler, 7. My husband, Mark is a plumber. I currently am the Planning & Development Coordinator for the San Antonio River Authority. I volunteer as a coach for the WCKS Spurs League and also have coached my sons T-Ball teams. In the past, I served various offices in the Women’s Service Organization and also served one term as the Corresponding Secretary of the Sacred Heart School Council. I also am a BeautiControl Consultant. My hobbies include spending quality time with my kids and being involved in what they enjoy doing. I also enjoy playing softball and watching NASCAR racing. Joining the Floresville Elementary PTA allows you to get involved in your children’s education and school activities as well as the opportunity to meet with other parents. The PTA is a necessary organization for any school. Having a PTA allows an outlet for a “meeting of the minds” between school staff and parents and will enable parents an additional resource for finding out more about what is going on in our school. The recording secretary records the minutes of all meetings of the association, keeps an accurate record of attendance at executive board meetings, and maintains a current copy of the bylaws.
My name is
Corry Lucio. I was born and raised here in Floresville and graduated from
FHS. I work as a PC Technician for WellMed Medical Management and I have been with the company for 11 years. I coach volleyball and basketball for the Boys and Girls Club of Wilson County and for the WCKS Spurs Drug-Free League. I am very involved in my daughter’s school activities and look forward to being involved in Jacob’s. I am very excited about being apart of the PTA. The biggest impact that I feel the PTA can have on the Floresville Elementary school is in the area of increased communication between parents and teachers. Improving parent interaction in the teaching process and in the classroom can have a significant impact in improving education.
The treasurer has custody of all the funds, keeps books of account, and makes disbursements in accordance with the budget adopted by the association. Parliamentarian Michelle Tejada is proud to be appointed as parliamentarian for the PTA. Michelle has served on boards for other organizations including the West Texas Handbell Association, YMCA of Abilene, Area IX AGEHR, and MOMS Club of Wilson County. She and her husband John have two daughters attending Floresville Elementary School. Michelle also works part-time as an audiologist. Michelle is excited that the PTA has returned to FISD. She hopes the organization will provide programs and activities to help the parents, teachers, and ultimately the students in our district. All officers will attend the
Texas PTA Leader Orientation or complete the course by Oct. 15 after their
election. Important Dates and Events |
