We have liftoff! The PTA is closer than ever to being reality with the formation of draft by-laws, officer nominations, and a scheduled date for the organizational meeting for our Floresville elementary PTA. Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend:

Thank You to all who attended the Wednesday, Mar 22, PTA Planning meeting to prepare for the April 4th organizational meeting.  Pictures were taken of the officer nominees present and will be posted on our web page as soon as we have the BIOs to go with them.  Julie Smith will send fill in the blank BIO’s so be on the look out for them.

 PTA Organizational meeting:  Tuesday, April 4, at 6:30 in the elementary school cafeteria

 We will have lots of refreshments, a movie for children, door prizes, and a silent auction.

 Also:  The homeroom classes with the most new PTA members will get a party as a reward!! Three teachers will also receive a gift certificate for a massage.

This is a very important meeting, where we will be forming the PTA and deciding when future meetings will be held.  We must have a good turnout in order for the PTA to become a reality, so please make it a priority to be there.  During the meeting, the by-laws will be read and new memberships will be accepted. The dues have been set at $5 per person, and memberships will run through the end of the 2006-07 school year.

I am looking for some volunteers. Please reply if you can help in any way. (Don't make me call you!) Here are some things we need:
  • Donations of gift baskets or other new items for the silent auction. If you have a donation, please call Jennifer Rivas at 210-573-7252 or e-mail jennieR78@aol.com. All proceeds will go to help fund the start-up costs of the new PTA.
  • Donations of new smaller items for door prizes. For example, Scholastic children's books or other items that the adults would like to receive. Let me know if you have items for door prizes (830-393-0360 or houstonstx@ev1.net).
  • Publicity: if you can help with this committee, contact Linda Miller at 830-216-2135 or e-mail lmiller709@aol.com.
  • Hospitality: I need one person to coordinate refreshments, and a number of people to bring snacks. If you'd like to keep track of who is bringing refreshments, please let me know.
  • We will need help making phone calls the week before the meeting. Please let me know if you can make some phone calls.

We have had an awesome response from people wanting to volunteer, so we are off to a fantastic start. Thanks for everything that you do to help our children succeed. They can't make it without you!

Activities in which the PTA is currently involved in include fundraisers, nominating committees and brainstorming. Please watch for dates and times and join in the fun as we help our school help our kids! A great opportunity for young and old will be with the Schools Annual Fundraiser Pickup Wednesday, April 12, from 2-7 pm at the school. Last year, this fundraiser netted more than $22,000 for the school! The PE department is leading the event, and would like parent volunteers to help distribute the items that have been ordered. If you'd like to volunteer, please contact coach Mary Ann Ezzell at mezzell@fisd.us or maezzell@aol.com and let her know you'd like to volunteer in the name of our new PTA!
