Committee Member Information FOR SEP 7 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
An
update on volunteers for the PTA meeting (remember all officers will
ideally be at a table by the mike): VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Hi, everyone! I have a couple of small projects that I am wondering if anyone would like to take on. I will try to keep delegating & not do everything myself! It's so much better for PTA if everyone has projects & goals they are working on. 1. Finding babysitters for the general meetings. Monica Noyes (pres. of TT PTA) pointed out that one reason dads don't attend PTA meetings is because they are home with the kids. Here are my ideas for finding babysitters: call the high school, talk to Mrs. Bays (the new principal) and ask whether there are high school students who can baby sit for either/both PTAs to earn service hours. We would provide a video, perhaps some simple games, and refreshments. Mr. Vinson mentioned that all high school students will be required to complete 75 hours of community service (I think) by graduation, which I think is a fantastic idea. The other thought I had was to ask Women’s Service Org. or some other community organization to come help baby sit. We would need at least 3 babysitters -- in case someone doesn't show up, and we would need a minimum of 2. We could also do a "dads drive" say at the November meeting, with a special door prize to go to all dads who show up. This is just an idea. 2. Pool party -- remember my great idea? Well, with the treasurer job still open I have a lot of preparing to do for the Sept. meeting. If someone would like to investigate the idea of having a pool party & present it to the membership Sept. 7, call me & let's talk about it. Otherwise, we won't try to have a pool party this year. If any of you have great ideas that you'd like PTA to tackle, that would be super! At some point, I'd like everyone to take a look at the members-only (and rest of) the National & State PTA websites. Check your email for the current userid & pw. There is a lot of free information out there. I have a few publications that are meant to be distributed among officers, and I will leave them in the PTA box for everyone to look at. I will put a check off list inside the cover so if an officer looks at it & returns it, they can initial it. This includes magazines & newsletters. Ms. Hughes has made some storage space available for PTA use. It is located on the stage in the cafeteria. I will start moving some of my various boxes and stuff there soon. I will put in a combo lock and keep the combination written down in the PTA box, inside the supplies box which is currently in there. The supplies box also contains the PTA copier code to use the school copiers. Also, at some point I need to let you know all of the district committees available that one of us could serve on as a PTA representative: including character education, building planning (bond issue planning) -- I forget the official name of that one, and also a committee dealing with children's nutrition and physical fitness. I don't have schedules of meeting dates for all of these yet. Thanks,
