The University of Texas at San Antonio Summer Music Institute for Piano & Strings - July 19-25, 2009

The Summer Music Institute (SMI) at the University of Texas at San Antonio is a week-long intensive program for talented young musicians ages 13-18 to receive private lessons, chamber music coaching, master classes, and classroom instruction from distinguished music faculty from across Texas. This unique program offers students the opportunity for chamber music performance regardless of their experience level. Repertoire is carefully chosen with each student’s ability level in mind and will be mailed to participating students prior to the camp. SMI students will also be featured in both solo and chamber music recitals at the end of the week.

Piano

Applicants may audition live or by tape/CD.  Auditions should include two pieces from the standard keyboard literature representing contrasting musical styles if auditioning for piano.  Tapes/CD’s should be of high quality and clearly marked with the student’s name and repertoire.  Enrollment may be limited.  All campers selected to participate in SMI should bring 1) one work-in-progress and 2) one performance-ready piece to study during the camp.

Strings

Applicants may audition live or by tape/CD.  Auditions should include one solo work, etude or audition excerpt (such as Region or All-State Orchestra) if auditioning for strings.  Tapes/CD’s should be of high quality and clearly marked with the student’s name and repertoire.  Enrollment may be limited.  All campers selected to participate in SMI should bring 1) one solo work-in-progress and 2) one performance-ready solo piece to study during the camp.

Tuition and Housing
