The Relay of Life, which was held on Saturday, April 14^th, 2007 at the FHS football field was a special event for a first grader and his reading teacher at Floresville Primary School. Jake Guerrero, a first grade student in Mrs. Thayer’s homeroom and Ms. Calhoun’s reading class, has put his character into action!  Jake was so moved when his dad read an article in the Floresville Chronicle which featured Ms. Calhoun’s unfortunate ordeal with cancer.  He was determined to help her in some way.  After discussing with his family different ways he could help, he decided to earn money by completing chores at home.  To Ms. Calhoun’s great surprise, Jake brought all the money he earned to the Relay and had Ms. Calhoun paged to present her his gift.  He eagerly donated all his earnings to her and to her team.  Jake certainly demonstrated citizenship through this heart-felt random act of kindness and exhibited his great caring character.
