Lesson Plan Objective
Mass Communication- Corporate Logo Design Students examine popular corporate logos through internet research. Students analyze the importance of a "credible logo" and distinguish traits that successful logos contain. Students develop mock corporations and design logos. Students evaluate "credibility" of logo through on-line auction at Ebay website, offering logo design to prospective buyers.

ELA 1.7 Reading Comprehension - Students research famous logos on internet and read about their conception - each group produces summaries of texts by identifying main ideas and their supporting details, and presents summaries to class.

2. Students analyze elements contained in successful logos and DESIGN AND INVENT own logo for "student" corporation.
3. Students collaborate in groups, using group communication skills, in order to decide what type of corporation they will form, and what kind of logo to design.
4. Students will elect group leader, who will then demonstrate leadership communication skills in accomplishing group task.
5. Students will analyze concept of on-line selling, and communication skills needed to attract attention to auction.
6. Students will develop ablility to become "credible" logo designers, and measure the success and legitimacy of their logo by offering it for sale on live eBay auction.
7. At conclusion of auctions students compare and contrast success of sale of team logos, and self-evaluate group performance.
8. Students assess strengths of presentation, marketing, and logo design, and determine alternate ways that would make logo even more powerful and lead to greater success at point of sale.
9. Students self-evaluate power of real life mass communication channels, and self-evaluate ability of group to form corporation, work together, and experience success.

Description of the differentiation activity
Modifications will be made in the above areas. Mod center will be available to eligible students, shortened presentations, Bloom's level 5 and 6 questions adjusted to level 1 and level 2, and group progress monitored by teacher. All state mandated modifications will be followed.
